Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington spoke to the media following his debut at the Club and keeping his first clean sheet between the sticks in the match against Burton Albion.
Town picked up all three points with a 3-0 win over Burton Albion, thanks to goals from Carl Johnston, Phoenix Patterson and Tommy Lonergan.
Harrington kept his cool at the other end in both halves to earn himself a clean sheet on debut for the Club.
Here’s what the Fleetwood shot-stopper had to say after making his debut this afternoon…
“I’m absolutely delighted to make my debut. I’ve been here since January 2023 and I’ve had a few setbacks along the way, but I’m seriously delighted to be out there playing football again.
“Making my debut and getting the result to go with it, it really is like the perfect afternoon. A clean sheet, three points and three goals, the lads were unbelievable.
“This has given me a taste and gives me the drive to make sure I have a serious summer, work hard and come back fit and ready to go and try and play next year.”
Coming back from successive shoulder injuries…
“The two shoulder surgeries were probably the two toughest moments of my life, mentally and physically.
“I’ve got here and I’ve got myself back on the pitch. It was a long road, don’t get me wrong, but everyone’s just been with me on the journey and I really can’t thank everyone enough.
“When the referee blew the whistle and I realised we had three points and the clean sheet, it was just such a relief. There was actually a smile on my face again today. I really missed playing football, but I was really delighted to have played my part.
“After making my debut today and keeping the clean sheet there’s a hunger to go again. I’d love if there was a game Tuesday night but at the same time it’s probably been a long season mentally for me.”
The goalkeeper’s union at Fleetwood…
“We all want the best for each other and obviously all of us want to play - it’s healthy competition. As a goalkeeping unit, we’re a tight-knit bunch.
“Each of us are just pushing one another every day. At the end of the day the best trainer and the best goalkeeper will probably play, but you can put any of us in goal and I think the gaffer, the staff and the team will be happy with whoever is in net.
“The gaffer has been unbelievable since he came in. He has been honest with all of us, not just the goalkeepers, but everyone.
"We know that if we work hard and train well, then there’s opportunities there. He’s there to give them to us.”
